About FBS - Statement of Faith

Without apology, First Baptist School holds to the following statement of faith:
  1. We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments alone, as the verbal plenary inspiration of God, inerrant in the original writings; and that they are of supreme and final authority in faith and practice. (II Peter 1:21)
  2. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit--yet one in substance and equal in every divine perfection. (John 14:7-12, 26; John 16:7; Matthew 28:19)
  3. We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true man. (Matthew 1:18-20)
  4. We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from God to convict the world of sin, of righteousness, and judgment, to regenerate, sanctify and comfort. (John 14:26; John 15:26; John 16:7-11)
  5. We believe that man was created in the image of God; that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also spiritual death which is separation from God; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, and in case of those who reach moral responsibility, become sinners in thought, word and deed. (Romans 5:12-13; John 3:16) We believe, therefore, that those who accept Jesus Christ as Saviour (as per Romans 10:9-10; I Corinthians 15:3-4) shall be forever in God's presence, and that those who reject Christ as Saviour will be forever separated from God. (Revelation 20:15; John 3:18,36)
  6. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice; and that all who receive Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood. (I John 1:7; Revelation 1:5; I John 2:2; I Peter 2:24)
  7. We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord; in His ascension into Heaven; and in His present life there for us, as High Priest and Intercessor. (Matthew 28:5-6; Mark 16:5-6; Acts 1:9; Hebrews 7:25-26; I Timothy 2:5)
  8. We believe in "that blessed hope" -- the personal, visible, premillennial, and imminent return of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. (I John 3:2-3; I Thessalonians 4:14-18; I Corinthians 15:51-53)
  9. We believe that all who repent of sin and receive, by faith, the Lord Jesus Christ are born again and thereby become sons of God. (John 1:12-13; John 3:3,7; I Peter 1:23)
  10. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting conscious blessedness of the saved in Heaven, and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost in Hell. (I Corinthians 15:42-44; Luke 16:10-31)
  11. We believe that there are two church ordinances: Baptism and The Lord's Supper.

Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water and is properly called "believer's baptism." This baptism sets forth in a beautiful and solemn way our faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Saviour. This baptism, in our lives, symbolizes death, burial and resurrection to a new life in Christ. (II Corinthians 5:17) Baptism is a prerequisite to church membership. (Acts 2:41)

The Lord's Supper is the commemoration of the Lord's death until He comes and of our continual fellowship with Him. Each believer should exercise careful self-examination before participating in this ordinance. (Acts 8:36-39; Romans 6:3-5; I Corinthians 11:23-32)
